The staggering truth about Asbestos

Many of you may have noticed the new television and media campaign recently put forth by WorksafeBC about the dangers of Asbestos. They’re putting up quite a few bucks to get the message out, and when you look at the numbers it’s no wonder.

It is quite crazy to think, but asbestos exposure is the leading cause of workplace death in BC. If you are working on a house built before 1990, there is a risk of exposure, and it can be found in many more materials & products than you think. We’re talking…

– Vinyl tiles and linoleum sheet flooring
– Roof felt and shingles
– Loose, blown-in insulation, such as vermiculite
– Stucco
– Gypsum board filling compound, and patching and joint compound for walls and ceilings
– Incandescent light fixture backing
– Deck undersheeting

…to name a few.
